Tones on the Stones Maddalena Calderoni qMaddalena Calderoni, after graduating with a diploma in singing, carried on her studies with various artists including Shirley Verrett, Mirella Feni, Fiorenza Cossotto, Simone Alaimo, Luciana D’Intino and Dorothy Dorrow in order to complete her contemporary repertoire. More> On winning a grant to  study at the “Valentino Bucchi” International Competition dedicated to 20th century singing  she won the 3rd International Competition – Città di Salviano – Workshop for Young Opera Singers. She also received a mention at the Concorso Internazionale “Montecorvino Opera Festival”. She has performed for many important concert organisations  and in the most prestigious Italian theatres including the Teatro Morlacchin di Perugia, Teatro “La Cavallerizza” in Modena, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro “Grande” in Brescia, Teatro “Ponchielli” in Cremona, Teatro “Fraschini” in Pavia and the Teatro Communale in Como.
She started her career at the Teatro Regio in Parma in January 2000 in “Lohengrin”, as part of the “Imparolopera” festival, she appeared as Mercedes in the production of Carmen on the Veneto circuit (Padova, Adria, Lonigo) in 2002; she sang in the “Barbiere di Seviglia” in the summer season of the same year. At the Reggio of Parma again in May 2003 she appeared as Sofia in “I Lombardi alla prima crociata” with Vincenzo La Scola and Michele Pertusi. In November and December 2003 she performed in “Cavalleria Rusticana”  (Mamma Lucia) in theatres in Lombardy in a production by Liliana Cavani. In 2004, in April she took part in a tour in Argentina during which she performed the Gloria by Vivaldi and she appeared at the Teatro Argentino in La Plata and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. In July she was in the “Barbiere di Seviglia” at the Summer Festival in Bene Vagienna. During these years she was very active on the concert circuit performing both opera and above all chamber music.
In 2007 she changed her repertory and began to sing as a dramatic soprano, and began to try out a new repertory. Amongst her most significant ventures were: Cavalleria Rusticana (Santuzza) and Suor Angelica at the Festival Voci sull’Acqua in Verbania. She went to Germany for a series of concerts with the Menuhin Festival Piano Quartet and in August she took part in a production by Gianni Schicchi (La Ciesca) with the “Bruno Maderna” Orchestra at Forlì and in the Friedberg Musiksommer Festival in Germany. She also performed in some Galà Lirici, singing with, amongst others, the bass Simone Alaimo and the tenor Miroslav Dvorsky and sang the “Wesendonk Lieder” by R.Wagner with the “Bruno Maderna” Orchestra conducted by Karl Heinz Steffens in a symphonic concert with soloists from the “Berlin Philharmonic”.

In 2007 at the “Ruggero Leoncavallo” Festival in Switzerland she sang with the great tenor Giuseppe Giacomini and went back to Germany for a concert with the Stuttgart Radio Chamber Orchestra. In 2008 she continued her performances with Tosca and Manon Lescaut; she also debuted in Die Sieben Todsunden by Kurt Weill.

Nel 2010 il direttore de La Biennale Danza Ismael Ivo invited her to take part in the production of “Oxygen”. On this occasion Maddalena Calderoni created two compositions for a single voice.

In 2013 she performed at the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno in a production of Cavalleria Rusticana and had enormous success in a Verdi Gala at the Cairo Opera House in Egypt. Amongst other roles sung in concert in  Italy and abroad (Japan, United States, Germany, Spain and Switzerland) she has sung Tosca, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, Leonora in La forza del destino, Elisabetta in Don Carlo, Adriana Lecouvreur, Manon Lescault, Turandot and Isolde in Tristan und Isolde.
In February 2014 she was a guest at the Teatro Goldoni at a Wagner Galà, in July she appeared in Tosca, directed by Renato Bonajuto and conducted by Stefano Romani alongside Giancarlo Monsalve, while in August she appeared with the tenor Luis Chapa at the gala for the Del Monaco brothers’ birthday in Treviso, also conducted by Stefano Romani with the Filarmonia Veneta Orchestra.
In April 2015 she was in Kazakhstan for an opera production with the Karaganda Symphony Orchestra.

Maddalena Calderoni has devoted herself to teaching over the last few years and has set up an academy in Verbania. She has also held master classes since 2009 in Japan where she also performs in concerts and gives public lessons aimed at drawing the public nearer to opera music.

Since 2005 she has been artistic director of the Atelier la Voce dell’Arte association and created two significant projects both unique and innnovative at an international level:
-Tones on the Stones: Festival of music, theatre and dance that offers exclusive productions set in the marble quarries in the Verbano and Ossola areas.
-An International Opera Competition for the composition of chamber music theatre works and dance music connected to artistic production that highlights young people’s creativity and contemporary languages. – Tones On The Stones – Premio Fedora
